Russia, China to commit six ships each to Naval Collaboration’2014 exercise

VLADIVOSTOK, May 13 (Itar-Tass) - Russian Navy and Chinese Naval Forces will commit six ships each to the Naval Collaboration’2014 military exercise, which will be held in the East China Sea before the end of this month.
Russia’s Pacific Fleet will provide, among others, the guard missile cruiser Varyag, the big antisubmarine ship Admiral Panteleyev, and big amphibious ship Admiral Nevelskoi, the press service of the fleet said.
May 14, a detachment of ships with The Varyag in the lead is expected to call out of the naval port of Vladivostok and to head for Shanghai.
The expansive naval exercise in the Naval Collaboration series involving Russian and Chinese ships and auxiliary seacraft is held for a third time. These exercises aim to build up practical collaboration between the two countries navies and to counteract diverse threats on high seas.
The previous exercise in the series was held in July 2013 in the Sea of Japan.
