Russia comes against politicising UNESCO activity - Foreign Ministry

ST PETERSBURG, May 15 (Itar-Tass) - Attempts to politicise the activity of UNESCO provide no benefit to the organisation, Russia’s high-ranking diplomat has said. “UNESCO [United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation] is a non-politicised organisation. It is designed to deal with social, humanitarian and scientific problems, and develop a cultural dialogue between states,” Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov said at the XIV International Likachev Scientific Conference on Thursday. “In recent times the attempts have been made to politicise the UNESCO activities,” he said. “Instead of dealing with issues under the Charter politicised resolutions, including on Crimean and Ukrainian topics, are submitted.
