M`SIA TO INCREASE VIGILANCE TO ENSURE CONTINUED PEACE AND STABILITY

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 29 (Bernama) -- Malaysia is taking the necessary measures to increase its vigilance towards ensuring that peace and stability will continue to prevail in the country.

Deputy Prime Minister Najib Razak said while Malaysia was confident of
being on top of the situation, it would do everything possible to ensure it
never neglected vigilance.

"We must continue to make sure that we do everything possible to deter
acts of terrorism in Malaysia," he said in an interview with the BBC television
channel Friday night.

Najib said apart from the security forces, which had thus far been very
successful in combating any form or potential acts of terrorism, the cooperation
and support from the people had also contributed to the peace and stability of
the country.

On top of that, he said legislations to pre-empt possible terrorist acts
had enabled Malaysia to preserve peace and stability in the country.

Najib also expressed his sympathy to the Indian government and its people
following the horrific terrorist attacks in Mumbai.

"We will continue to support and remained steadfast in cooperating with
India and other countries in the fight against global terrorism," he
said.

So far, 125 people have been killed, including 14 policemen and six
foreigners while 250 others were injured in a series of coordinated terrorist
attacks in Mumbai since Wednesday evening.
