Sufficient Iodine consumption in Thai households up nearly 50%

BANGKOK, May 28 (TNA) - The National Statistical Office (NSO) and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) Thailand report that Thai households with sufficient Iodine consumption have increased by 47.2 per cent. The NSO and Bangkok-based UNICEF office said on May 27 that the figure came from a latest random survey in 2012 on 27,000 households across Thailand, compared with the previous survey in 2006. The survey on the situation of children and women in Thailand also found that the number of breastfed infants under the age of 6 months in Thailand has increased by 5.4 per cent. But the survey discovered that weights and heights of children in Thailand have been under standard levels, especially those in the northeastern and southern regions, with most obese children found in the central region, followed by Bangkok. According to the survey, only 75.1 per cent of children aged 12-23 months have received vaccines against all diseases, a slight drop from those in 2006. (TNA)
