Lavrov praises relations with Slovenia

MOSCOW, May 30 (Itar-Tass) - Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov praises relations with Slovenia. “We’re glad to meet within the intergovernmental commission for discussing global issues,” Lavrov said at a meeting with Slovenian counterpart Karl Erjavec on Friday. “At today’s meeting with Minister of Mass Communications and Mass Media Nikolai Nikiforov you’ve talked about the serious rise in turnover. We’re pleased with this fact,” he said. “We note the high level of humanitarian cooperation. Of course, when we mark the 100th anniversary of World War I and the 70th anniversary of the Victory in World War II, it is important to continue cooperation for commemorating those who gave their lives in the fight against Nazism,” Lavrov said. “In compliance with the agreements I hope to take part in opening a memorial museum near the concentration camp in Maribor where many our citizens lost their lives. We know about plans for restoring an Orthodox church in Maribor that was destroyed by Nazis,” he said. Lavrov hopes to exchange views on European affairs, Russia-EU relations and the absence of Russia-NATO dialogue. “We want to hear your assessment on these processes,” he said. Erjavec said the elections to the European Parliament had been held. “We expect new European Parliamentarians support the efforts aimed at maintaining Russia-EU partnership,” he said. “Our relations were very interesting. We expect Minister Nikiforov and you to visit Slovenia for opening a memorial museum in Maribor,” Erjavec said. “We always want to understand the EU position,” Lavrov added.
