Thai oil tanker likely to be hijacked off Singapore's coast
BANGKOK, May 31(TNA) - The International Maritime Bureau (IMB) says that a Thai oil tanker is likely to have been hijacked on its way from Singapore to Indonesia.
The IMB's Kuala Lumpur-based Piracy Reporting Centre was quoted as saying by international media reports on Saturday morning that the Thai diesel oil tanker, named MT Orapin 4, carrying 14 crew members, has lost contact with its owner since May 27, after leaving Singapore for Pontianak on Kalimantan, the Indonesian portion of the Borneo Island.
The IMB's Piracy Reporting Centre asked other vessels to help look for the missing Thai tanker, acknowledging that pirates have attacked a number of vessels in the area.
Another Thai oil tanker was hijacked by a group of heavily-armed pirates off Malaysia's eastern coast in April 2014, injuring the captain and stealing diesel from the Thai tanker.(TNA)
