Russia calls for bolstering talks in South Sudan as soon as possible

MOSCOW, June 5 (Itar-Tass) - Russia’s Foreign Ministry has called for bolstering talks in South Sudan as soon as possible.
The ministry’s spokesman, Alexander Lukashevich, urged the warring parties - supporters of incumbent South Sudanese President Salva Kiir and former vice-premier Riek Machar - to comply with the May 9 agreements on the settlement of the situation.
At the end of 2013 South Sudan’s army clashed with the White Army ethnic militia. The conflict brought South Sudan to the verge of humanitarian catastrophe. About 500 people died and over 700 were injured. In May the warring parties concluded a peace deal. But the clashes resumed later.
