Thai company to build 90 billion baht dam in Sayaboury

(KPL) A run-of-river dam development to be located on the River Mekong in the Xayaboury province will be constructed by ChKharnchang Public Company Limited of Thailand.
It has already signed a MoU with the Lao government on 4 May 2007 to carry out a feasibility study and it has just received the green light to carry out the 90 billion baht project. On its completion it should generate 1,260 MW and provide as much as 7,400 MW per year.
Ninety per cent of the electricity will be sold to Thailand and 10 per cent will be allocated for use in Laos.
On 25 November the Thai company signed a MoU with the Lao government to give the company the green light to construct the dam.
The Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment of Laos ,Mr Bounthavy Sisouphanthong, the Chairman of Ch.Kharnchang Public Company Limited of Thailand Mr Pliew Trivisavat, the Acting Minister of Energy and Mining, Mr Somboun Rasasombath, the deputy director of environment and water resource agency and concerned officials from the two sides attended the MoU signing ceremony in Vientiane.
