Media forum charts partnership for Russian, Chinese journalists

HARBIN, July 2 (Itar-Tass) - News professionals from China and Russia gathered in the capital of China's northeastern Heilongjiang province on Wednesday at a forum discussing mass communications in a new technology age. Agenda items sought to gauge the Internet's impact on journalists' work as a Russian delegation assembled media representatives from Itar-Tass and other news agencies alongside mainly far eastern regional television companies and web portals. China's delegates included Xinhua news agency, China Radio International and the leading Dongbeiwang (Northeast Web) news portal as Dongbeiwang editor-in-chief Liu Guomin told the forum: “Chinese and Russian media have great opportunities for joint development. By working together, we can make great advances,” noting the importance of electronic media in the modern media landscape. “In the age of the Internet, Russian and Chinese media should co-operate closely and take the lead in covering events in the two countries, principally in policy and trade," he said. "This will give new impetus to development of bilateral relations,” he added. The forum, attended by representatives of leading Russia media, convened as part of a Russia-China exhibition to promote international trade, organised by Heilongjiang province government and the Dongbeiwang portal.
