Indian universities to employ native speakers for Russian teaching

NEW DELHI, July 3 (Itar-Tass) - Indian colleges and universities plan to attract Russian language teaching specialists to classrooms nationwide, head of Russian humanitarian agency Rossotrudnichestvo Fyodor Rozovsky told Itar-Tass. Indian universities had passed another stage of growth and were ready to accept teachers from Russia, said Rozovsky, head of the Russian culture and science centre in New Delhi. Documents had been signed and a teacher from Moscow Lomonosov University was destined for the city of Margao, in the state of Goa, to work at the Parvatibai Chowgule College of Arts and Science. Russian is taught at more than 30 Indian universities, at 16 schools and at language centres in New Delhi, Calcutta, Chennai, Mumbai and Thiruvananthapuram. Until now, teachers were Indians while interest in Russian was increasing along with the publication of Russian language workbooks, Rozovsky said. “Two years ago, we adapted the book A Road to Russia especially for India in co-operation with Indian specialists in Russian philology,” Rozovsky said. Under a federal programme, free books were gifted to about 30 educational institutions all over India. Rozovsky said there was enough literature for adults while noting the need to eliminate gaps in Russian books for children. Learn more on itar-tass.com
