Indonesians Exercise Political Rights Maturely: VP

Sleman, Yogyakarta, July 9 (Antara) - Vice President Boediono said the people had exercised their political rights at the presidential election maturely and this peaceful election process was expected to bring goodness to the nation. "The people can restrain themselves," he told journalists after casting his vote at a polling station in Sawit Sari area of Depok here Wednesday. This good development should be thanked but the people need to remain careful with baseless issues, he said adding that the presidential election which takes place in the holy month of Ramadan will be a blessing for all Indonesians. Vice President Boediono cast his vote for the July 9 presidential election in Yogyakarta since his identity card is registered in the city. Despite the fact that Boediono in his power as the vice president resides in an accommodation provided by the state at Jalan Diponegoro, Jakarta, his identity card is issued by the Yogyakarta provincial administration. Before coming to power, Boediono and his family lived in Yogyakarta, and he worked as a professor of economics at the University of Gadjah Mada. He and his wife had cast their votes at polling station number 102 in Pikgondang hamlet, Sawit Sari village, Condong Catur of Depok, Yogyakarta, for the parliamentary election on April 9, 2014. According to Indonesia`s General Election Commission, a total of 190,307,134 eligible voters have been registered for the presidential election (including 2,038,711 overseas voters who have previously cast their votes) with 486,866 polling stations across the archipelago. The election will be contested by two pairs: Prabowo Subianto with Hatta Rajasa as his running mate and Jokowi who pairs with Jusuf Kalla.
