PM receives Roundtable Meeting delegation

(KPL) Prime Minister Bouasone Bouphavanh received the courtesy visit of the Roundtable Meeting delegation led by the Representative of United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to Laos, Ms. Sonam Yangchen Rana at his office on Saturday.
The delegation which is made up of international development partners of Laos appreciated the Lao government on its mid-term implementation of the 6th national socio-economic development plan for the 2006-2010 period and the translation into reality of the millenium development goals (MDG), which have been implemented in progressive ways.
The guests also urged the prime minister and his government to ensure clear response to the financial crisis in the
future and focus on the realisation of MDGs
and investment in priority projects of social areas.
They asked the government to attach importance to managing natural resources by ensuring that such a management is balance, sustainable and environmentally friendly and the facilitation of foreign investment and the development of private sector.
During the talks Mr. Bouasone expressed his thanks to the international development partners and said that the government had agreed to exchange points of views on areas of both interest and highly valued the supports from the international development partners.
He said that the government took into account the achievement of MDGs such as the poverty reduction of Lao ethnic people and the efforts of the government to have Laos erased from the list of the least developed countries.
The prime minister also said that the government actively promoted the business sector to participate in the contribution of the socio-economic growth by ensuring suitable natural development exploitation and rural development, the income generation of ethnic people.
He said that the government had made more efforts in human resource development by increasing investment into this area as well as promoting public contribution to education, health and various areas.
