North to see frost, as tropical pressure forms in East Sea

Hanoi (VNA) - National forecasters have announced that cold weather will blanket northern Vietnam again on Dec. 4 while a new tropical pressure was forming in the East Sea on Dec. 2.

The National Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Control has warned ships
and boats operating in the East Sea to find shelter.

The committee has also asked authorities along the coast from the central
city of Da Nang to southern Ca Mau province to manage their ships and
boats and to make preparations to deal with possible weather related
problems.

Forecasters also reported that temperatures have fallen to below 5 degrees
Celsius at night in northern mountainous provinces. During the day, however,
the temperature is often over 20 degrees Celsius.

Hoarfrost has been reported in Lao Cai province's Bac Ha, Si Ma Cai and Sa
Pa and also in the Hoang Lien Son Mountain since late last month.

Luu Minh Hai, deputy director of the Lao Cai Hydro-meteorological
Forecasting Centre, said this was the first frost to have occurred in the
province during the month of November in the last 13 years.

He also said that people living in the northern mountainous region should be
aware that cold weather could cause livestock to suffer from epidemics
break-outs more easily, and called on them to keep their cattle warm.

Hai said the phenomenon may end on Dec. 3 but another spell of frost
would occur in Lao Cai, Lai Chau and Yen Bai provinces. He suggested that
people there do their best to protect their vegetables and seedlings.

Ho Chi Minh City and southern provinces will enjoy a cool December with
temperatures ranging from 19-21 degrees Celsius during another cold
spell.-Enditem
