Emperor rests at palace, condition stable: agency

TOKYO, Dec. 4 Kyodo - Emperor Akihito, who was diagnosed as having arrhythmia, rested Thursday at the
Imperial Palace and his condition remains stable, the Imperial Household Agency
said, adding that he also had meals as usual.

His schedule for Friday and afterward will be determined based on the results
of a checkup on Thursday and another scheduled for Friday morning, the agency
said. The emperor canceled all official duties on Wednesday and Thursday after
he was diagnosed with arrhythmia and an increase in blood pressure.
Checkups are conducted at the Imperial Household Hospital and there is no plan
to have him undergo more detailed examinations at other institutions, according
to the agency.
