Council of Europe condemns journalists' killings in Ukraine
STRASBOURG, September 3 (Itar-Tass) - Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thorbjorn Jagland condemned on Wednesday the killings of journalists in Ukraine, commenting on the confirmed death of Russian photojournalist Andrei Stenin.
Killing of reporters was inadmissible and the bloodshed had to be stopped, he said.
Reports on Wednesday said the photographer, working for Russian state news agency Rossiya Segodnya, formerly RIA Novosti, was killed near the eastern Ukrainian city of Donetsk last month.
Stenin disappeared in embattled southeast Ukraine while covering the armed conflict in Donetsk, Slavyansk and other danger spots. Contact with him was lost on August 5.
Rossiya Segodnya confirmed on Wednesday that his death had been established by forensic experts. Russia's Investigative Committee says the photographer died when Ukrainian military opened fire on a refugee convoy near Donetsk on August 6.
