Security Tightened at Thai Government House Ahead of First Cabinet Meeting

BANGKOK, Sept 7(TNA) - With only two days left before new Thai Prime Minister Gen. Prayuth Chan-ocha starts his work at the Government House, a large number of policemen, bomb disposal officials and trained dogs early Sunday searched buildings inside the compound as well as outside to make sure that no strange objects were found before the new government leader starts the work. Buildings that had undergone refurbishment and just completed such as the Santi Maitree and the Thai Kufa buildings were searched thoroughly because many workers worked there before. No strange objects were found. However, security officials plan to conduct another round of search which include tests of telephone signals again Monday. It is expected that authorities working for the deputy prime ministers and the Minister attached to the Prime Minister’s Office may inspect their offices Monday. Gen. Prayuth, also leader of the National Council for Peace and Order which has seized power following the May 22 coup, will hold his first cabinet meeting at the Government House on Tuesday. – TNA
