Thai far South's community products to be on sale in Malaysia

NARATHIWAT, THAILAND, September 11 (TNA) - Narathiwat Province in the violence-plagued Thai far South now plans to export local outstanding community-based products to neighbouring Malaysia's northern Kelantan State. The plan was announced on Thursday, after a meeting between Narathiwat Governor Natthapong Sirichana and a business delegation from the Malaysian Kelantan State at the Provincial Hall, during which other parties concerned also attended. The Malaysian business delegates discussed investment opportunities in Narathiwat and their intention to import products from Narathiwat for sales in Kelantan. The Malaysian business operators said they plan to mainly import food and garments from Narathiwat to serve demand of local Muslims in Kelantan, while the Narathiwat governor recommended Keropok (deep fried crackers), preserved durian, prayer mats and velvet tamarind, which are produced under the province's one tambon, one product (OTOP) scheme. The governor acknowledged that it is the first time Kelantan business operators have expressed their interest in import Thailand's OTOP items for sales in their state. The Kelantan business delegation also invited Thai workers to visit thier state for vocational training. (TNA)
