SHOOTING AT DELHI AIRPORT

NEW DELHI, Dec 5 (Bernama) -- Unidentified gunmen opened fire at the arrival gate of the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) early Friday morning but no casualties were reported.

According to Indian television stations, a group of gunmen fired three
rounds at about 1am, before escaping in a Qualis car, which bore a Haryana
state number plate.

Despite tight security cover at the airport, gunmen managed to enter the
airport vicinity and created panic among travellers.

Several international flights were delayed but resumed this morning, and
activities are back to normal at the airport.

"Gunshots were heard but no injuries, no bullets were found. They escaped
in
a car," Central Industrial Security Forces (CISF) deputy inspector general
Udayan Banerjee told the media.

Security had been heightened since the Mumbai terrorist attacks last
Wednesday, where more than 170 people were killed and over 250 injured in the
four-day ordeal in the city.

Security at prominent airports in Bangalore, Chennai and Delhi had been
stepped up after terror e-mails were received on Thursday morning that
terrorists are now targeting airports.

Delhi airport is on high security alert with additional security personnel
being deployed.
