Al Murr stresses keenness of FNC on service of nation, citizens

Abu Dhabi (WAM): Mohammed Ahmed Al Murr, Speaker of Federal National Council (FNC), has stressed the keenness of the FNC on service of nation, citizens, and keeping pace with the development being experienced by the U.A.E. led by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and Members of Supreme Council, Their Highnesses Rulers of Emirates. Observing the International Day for Democracy, which coincides with 15th September, he emphasised the importance of Universal Declaration on Democracy adopted by Inter Parliamentary Union (IPU) on 15th September, 1997. He added that the move constitutes a significant step towards democracy, noting that in 2007, the United Nations General Assembly unanimously adopted the resolution, declaring 15th September each year as International Day for Democracy. Al Murr said the 15th September comes amid huge political changes in Arab world. "This year's celebration constitutes an important occasion that could be seized to assert the role of national, regional and international parliaments to boost values of democracy and take more measures to develop exercise of democracy." He expressed the pride of FNC in the gradual method to enhance the parliamentary life and political participation in line with the political empowerment programme launched by the U.A.E. President.
