Miladinov Calls States of Paris Conference to Cooperate To prevent Flow Of Foreign Fighters Into Iraq and Syria

BAGHDAD / NINA / The Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Iraq, Nikolai Miladinov called member States at the Paris Conference to cooperate to prevent the flow of foreign fighters and funding and other forms of support to Islamic extremist groups in Iraq and Syria. Miladinov, during a speech on behalf of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, in the Paris International Conference on Peace and Security in Iraq, said that "the member states should work closely with the Iraqi government and the Kurdistan Regional Government to provide security, humanitarian and development required support." stressing that "the United Nations is ready to support Iraq and the region through coordinated efforts of political, social, humanitarian and financial resources to address the current crisis. " Miladinov confirmed that "the international growing consensus on fighting Islamic extremist groups should be governed by international law and standards that support the protection of civilians." Miladinov added that "the military solution alone is not enough and the political process and comprehensive roadmap to involve all components in the decision-making process in Iraq remains vital."
