SCOMI TO COMPLETE BANGALORE MONORAIL FEASIBILITY STUDY SOON

NEW DELHI, Dec 5 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's Scomi Engineering Bhd will soon complete its feasibility study for its next Indian monorail project in the fast growing metropolis of Bangalore.

After winning the RM1.85 billion (US$509.04 million) Mumbai monorail project,
Scomi is gearing to bid to build the 59km line in Bangalore, capital of the
southern Indian state of Karnataka.

"We have submitted the technical DPR, the detailed project report and the
government (Karnataka) is studying that.

"We are now undergoing the financial package proposal which will be submitted
shortly to the government of Karnataka. It's a sou moto proposal from us to
build the three lines of the 59 km to disperse traffic within the city,"
Scomi's senior vice-president (special projects) Kanesan Velupillai told
Bernama.

Kanesan is leading a delegation to the three-day Urban Mobility Conference in
Delhi.

He said the proposed Bangalore monorail project would be on a
build-operate-transfer model and several other partners would be working along
with Scomi, an investment holding engaged in the provision of management
services to subsidiaries.

The Karnataka government is planning an integrated transportation system for
the city's 17 million people and last year it sanctioned the monorail project.
