MALAYSIANS CELEBRATE AIDIL ADHA IN DELHI

By P. Vijian

NEW DELHI, Dec 9 (Bernama) -- Malaysians continued to preserve the spirit of Aidil Adha in religious fervour in the capital Tuesday.

Together with family members, they gathered at the Malaysian High
Commission
for the morning prayers. Later, buffaloes were slaughtered to mark the special
festival.

"Malaysians in India are celebrating the Hari Raya Aidil Adha on Tuesday,
whereas in Malaysia, it was a day before. Like in the previous years, we are
doing the sacrifice.

"This year, we will sacrifice 11 buffaloes donated by officers from the
mission and also Malaysians working in New Delhi. The meat will be distributed
to 'madrasa' and orphanages around Delhi," Malaysia's Deputy High Commissioner
to India Norlin Othman told Bernama.

The event will be followed by lunch for all Malaysians residing in
Delhi.

Meanwhile, the Muslim community in India celebrated the feast of sacrifice
or popularly known as Bakr-Id, on a low-key, following the terror attacks in
Mumbai last week, where over 170 people lost their lives.

Indian Muslim clerics urged Muslims to host moderate celebration and wear
black ribbons to express solidarity for those killed in the tragedy.

India is home to nearly 150 million Muslims, the second largest in the
world
after Indonesia.
