Emergency medical units in Thailand’s deep South to be improved

BANGKOK, November 9 (TNA) - Emergency medical units in Thailand’s three trouble-plagued southern provinces will be improved by the Public Health Ministry with an aim to reduce the number of fatalities from insurgent attacks. Public Health Minister Dr. Rajata Rajatanavin last week led ministry officials in inspecting and visiting medical personnel at Khok Pho Hospital in Pattani province. They also handed compensation money to 66 people affected by insurgency. Dr. Rajata said that emergency medical units in the three provinces would be improved to provide initial treatment to victims more effectively before they are sent to hospital. Every doctor stationing at community hospitals will be given a training programme under the southern trauma and emergency care project. The programme is jointly conducted with Prince of Songkla University. He said trainings will be arranged for surgeons on how to provide treatment to patients under critical condition and on transferring patients via land and air to other more equipped hospitals for treatment.
