Police, Military Jointly Secure Jakarta From Flooding

Jakarta, Nov 17 (Antara) - The police are ready to collaborate with the military and Jakarta government to secure Indonesia`s capital city from the threat of flooding, stated Jakarta Police Chief Inspector General Unggung Cahyono. "We cannot work alone. That is why we need to collaborate with the military and provincial government," he stated here on Monday when questioned about the efforts to mitigate the floods in Jakarta. While conversing with journalists after attending a preparatory event for the inauguration of Basuki Tjahaja Purnama as the Jakarta governor, he said the collaboration is expected to optimize the mitigation efforts in the disaster-prone areas. The police will prepare additional equipment such as inflatable boats, pump machines, modified jerry can boats, and 115 canoes. The displaced people will be evacuated to safe locations without disrupting the city`s traffic. "We will inspect the places that will be used as refugee shelters," he added.
