National Assembly approves six laws

(KPL) The current session of the 6th National Assembly approved on 10 December four amendments and two new laws and amended the expenditure plan for 2008-09.
The laws were on printing and quarantine and the other four were amendments to existing laws, such as contract, inheritance, electricity and mining.
However, the sessions over the 11-day period concentrated on several key issues: the classification of 49 Lao ethnic groups, an appraisal of the achievements of the Lao government in the 2007-08 period, an evaluation of the recent flood and the effects of the global financial crisis on Laos.
NA members enthusiastically brainstormed when they were debating each of the seven laws and listened intently on the achievements of the Standing Committee of National Assembly.
The 2008-09 expenditure plan was increased from 10,026 billion kip to 10,648 billion kip, a rise of 6.2 percent (622.49 billion kip).
The session was chaired by President of the National Assembly Thongsing Thammavong.
