PM calls on tour companies to seek new market

(KPL) Prime Minister Bouasone Bouphavanh has called on tour companies and the National Tourism Administration to improve the tourist service and look for new market aiming at reducing the impact of the current global financial crisis.
PM Bouasone gave the advice while attending the 4th meeting of the National Tourism Administration on 9 December, Lane Xang Hotel, Vientiane, under the chairmanship of Minister to Prime Minister’s Office and President of the National Tourist Administration, Mr Somphong Mongkhounvilay.
Next year, Laos is expected to face with challenges and the impact of global financial crisis and worse economic conditions leading to the impact of tourism industry worldwide.
Presently, the political turmoil in Thailand has also impacted to the tourism sector in the sub-Mekong region. Since Thailand is a gateway to the countries in the region.
“On this issue, we should seek ways to address this problem by focusing on advisements, promoting tourist and linking with Vietnam, Cambodia, China, Malaysia and Singapore instead of Thailand,” he advised.
In addition, the National Tourist Administration should cooperate with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Public Security to study the possibility of visa exemption for tourists of our target markets.
