ONLY RESIDENTS WITH PASSES ALLOWED TO ACCESS HOMES
KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 11 (Bernama) -- Residents living in the landslide-hit
area in Bukit Antarabangsa are now required to obtain access passes before they
can be allowed to enter their homes.
An Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) spokesman said the move was to
ensure that only genuine residents were allowed to enter the area to prevent any
untoward incident.
The passes can be obtained from MPAJ camp located at the Riverdale route,
he
said.
Each family needs to register only once.
Two passes with yellow straps would be issued to each family while the
media
would be issued with passes with red straps, he added.
Meanwhile, Ampang United Malays National Organization (UMNO) division chief
Ismail Kijo said the Bukit Antarabangsa disaster fund, launched Tuesday, had so
far collected RM160,000.
In a related development, residents and victims of the landslide tragedy
would be given free taxi service from their housing area to any destination
within the Klang Valley.
Entrepeneur and Cooperatives Development Minister Noh Omar told a news
conference that the Ampang Taxi Drivers Association would provide 25 taxis
Wednesday and seven more on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
"Residents who want to use the service need to register with the Barisan
Nasional (National Front) operations room," he said.
The service, using taxis with the mark "Ferry Service", would operate from
10am to 10pm.
Taxi drivers providing the service would be given a RM300 allowance, he
added.
Meanwhile, solid waste management company Alam Flora collected at least
three tonnes of garbage daily from the landslide area.
Alam Flora Ampang Jaya supervisor Husin Ali said 100 staff of the company
were involved in the clean-up.
"There are 50 people working during the morning shift while another 50 will
be on duty in the afternoon. Ten containers have been stationed in the area," he
told Bernama.
The United Malays National Organisation, or UMNO is a right-wing party and
Malaysia's largest political party; a founding member of the Barisan Nasional
coalition, which has been Malaysia's ruling political party since
independence.
