FULL REPORT ON SAFETY OF LANDSLIDE AREA TO BE KNOWN IN THREE MONTHS
KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 13 (Bernama) -- A full report on the safety level of the
landslide area at Bukit Antarabangsa will be known in three months with a
preliminary report on the matter to be out in a month, Works Minister Ir
Mohd Zin Mohamed said Saturday.
He said the report would be prepared by the Public Works Department's Slope
Engineering Division (SED), which would monitor land movement in the area and
identify the cause of the landslide, as well as to make several recommendations
on repair works.
Mohd Zin said that currently, the division was clearing the site of the
rubble from the landslide.
"Clearing work is going to be a problem and difficult because of water
retention on the collapsed slopes caused by heavy rain since the past few days,"
he told reporters after visiting the site Saturday.
Mohd Zin said site investigation and failure mapping at the site would
begin next week and advised residents in the affected areas to be patient as the
work would take some time.
Last Saturday's landslide in areas near here claimed four lives and
damaged 14 bungalows.
Members in the PWD's SED also include the Mapping Department, the Drainage
and Irrigation Department, the Meteorological Department, the Housing and Local
Government Ministry and three foreign experts.
