President receives Stanford University professor

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The President Ts.Elbegdorj Wednesday received James S.Fishkin, a professor at the Department of Communication at Stanford University and director of the Stanford Consultative Democracy Center, who is visiting us by invitation of the Mayor or the UB city. Prof. Fishkin said he respects Mr Elbegdorj for being one of the pioneers of Mongolia’s democracy and for becoming the democratic leader in the region. He said Mongolia has become the 23rd country in the world to implement a method of the consultative democracy, and emphasized that efforts of the capital city of Mongolia for ensuring a civil participation in decision-making process is a right step to improve the governance. In response, Mr Elbegdorj said the way of developing the present democracy of Mongolia was not very easy, and underlined that ensuring people’s participation in the decision-making is vital for Mongolia. The President also said he will fully support an introduction of the consultative democracy not only in the capital city, but also across the country, and that he will collaborate with Fishkin in it. Present at the meeting was also Kim Hunter, an acting Permanent Representative of the Asia Foundation to Mongolia.
