Prospects of Tuesday’s round of Lausanne nuclear talks good, chances are substantial - Lavrov

MOSCOW, March 31. /TASS/. The prospects of Tuesday’s round of talks between Iran and the six world powers (the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany) are good, the chances are substantial, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Tuesday. The minister added that he was "indeed planning to return to Lausanne to take part in the final part of the ministerial meeting of the six world powers." "The prospects of this round of talks are not bad, I would even say good," Lavrov said. "There’re no one hundred percent guarantees, one can never be one hundred percent sure of something." "These chances are quite feasible, if none of the negotiators makes last-minute bids with a view of receiving extra concessions instead of trying to preserve the balance of interests," Russia’s top diplomat said. "This balance must not be upset. As long as it is being formed, the prospects are quite good." Speaking about anti-Iranian sanctions, Lavrov noted that "the sanctions had to be suspended after a deal was reached, they should no longer be in force." "There’re different options - they could be lifted completely or just suspended first and then be abandoned in the legal sense," the minister said. "But the point is that these sanctions should cease to be effective and should not hinder the development of legitimate trade and economic interaction between Iran and its partners abroad." "This, of course, concerns sanctions imposed by the UN Security Council," the Russian Foreign Minister said. "We do not recognize as lawful unilateral sanctions imposed by the United States, European and other countries under any circumstances, be it Iran or any other country," Lavrov said. "But this is a matter of interaction between Iran and these countries," he added. Read more
