MARINE POLICE PROPOSE JOINT TRAINING WITH KOREAN KCG

PUTRAJAYA, Dec 18 (Bernama) -- Malaysian marine police personnel and officers may soon undergo training on sophisticated Korean Coast Guard (KCG) vessels in South Korea.

Federal Marine Police Commander, SAC II Isa Munir said the proposal was
still in the planning stage but would take off once both countries reach a
consensus.

"Once the proposal is approved, it will be implemented and officers placed
in KCG vessels for a specific period," he said after attending the 7th joint
meeting with KCG at Police Marine Base here Thursday.

He said the meeting, held every year and hosted by both countries in
alternate years, was to discuss matters related to training and management
aspects.

"Every year the topics of discussions are almost the same and related to
current issues and how well to combat criminal activities and pirates along the
coast," he said.

Four delegations from South Korea including the Director General of KCG
Control and Safety Bureau, Soung Soo-kim.
