Thailand sends 3rd disaster medical team to quake-hit Nepal

BANGKOK, May 10 (TNA) - A new team of medical relief workers has been dispatched from Thailand to areas hit by a powerful 7.9 magnitude earthquake in Nepal. Thailand’s Public Health Ministry said on Sunday its third aid team consisting of 20 people, including 9 doctors, 8 nurses and 3 hygiene and water experts, travelled on Thai Airways flight TG319. They had been assigned to assist Nepalese health officials and the WHO at an emergency camp in Chandani School in the hilly Kebhrepalanchok District. Thailand would be working with partners to provide food, water, and sanitary hygiene, in addition to other healthcare, disease control and psychological support services for the disaster victims. The first set of Thai medical relief workers from the Public Health Ministry’s Medical Emergency Response Team (MERT) unit, returned to Thailand last night after their dispatch since 29 April for their 10-day service at a field hospital in Nepal’s Sippakad Municipality, Sindhupalchok District. The second team of aid workers, sent on 7 May, still operates in the Himalayan nation. (TNA)
