JOINT SINGAPORE-MALAYSIA NAVAL EXERCISE IN MALACCA STRAITS

SINGAPORE, Dec 20 (Bernama) -- The Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) and the
Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) Friday completed a 10-day naval exercise in the
Malacca Straits.

Codenamed Malapura and hosted by the RMN, the exercise was jointly closed
by RMN Fleet Commander Vice-Admiral Ahmad Kamarulzaman Ahmad Badaruddin
and RSN Fleet Commander Rear-Admiral Ng Chee Peng in a ceremony at the Changi
Naval Base here.

The RSN deployed a frigate, missile corvette and patrol vessel for the
exercise while the RMN participated with a frigate, corvette and offshore patrol
vessel.

The exercise which began on Dec 10, saw the participation of about 400
personnel from both navies which have been involved in Ex-Malapura since
1984.

These exercises have strengthened professional ties and enhanced mutual
understanding between both navies, says the Singapore Defence Ministry.
