MALAYSIA, SINGAPORE TO EXCHANGE BUSINESS PROGRAMMES FOR TELEVISION

KUANTAN (Malaysia), Dec 20 (Bernama) -- Malaysia and Singapore have agreed to cooperate in exchanging business-related television programmes and the development of creative industries.

Information Minister Ahmad Shabery Cheek said the cooperation between
Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) and Mediacorp of Singapore would benefit the
business and tourism sectors of both countries.

"This form of cooperation has been established (by RTM) with Indonesia
through the 'warta serumpun' (neighbourliness concept) and will be expanded to
Singapore, as well as to other countries," he told reporters after meeting a
deleagtion from Singapore's Information, Communications and Arts Ministry led by
its minister, Dr Lee Boon Yang, here Saturday.

Towards this end, Ahmad Shabery said each week a half-an-hour slot
would be allotted by RTM for business programmes from Singapore and that
air-time for this would be extended in future.

RTM viewers will get to watch them before the end of next year, he said,
adding that he believed that by having an exchange of business programmes
between Malaysia and singapore, it would provide a better insight on the
business potential and opportunities available in both countries.

On creative industries, he said Singapore had big plans for the
development of its creative industries.

"We are are heading in the same direction, especially with the
current world economic slowdown, where this industry is the safest," he
added.
