Premier Dmitry Medvedev to address World Congress of Russian Press

MOSCOW, June 11. /TASS/. Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev will on Thursday address the 17th World Congress of the Russian Press, the government press service reports. The prime minister will take part in a plenary session reviewing relations of the state and media and global tendencies of a new millennium. He will also present diplomas of the government of the Russian Federation to representatives of Russian-language printed media from Great Britain, Georgia, the Czech Republic and the United Arab Emirates. Also taking part in the congress are Deputy Prime Minister Olga Golodets and Minister of Communications and Mass Media Nikolai Nikiforov. The World Congress of the Russian Press is held in Moscow on June 10-12. More than 500 Russian-language media outlets from 65 countries participate in the event. The 70th anniversary of the end of Second world War is one of the focal points of the forum this year. The congress is the supreme forum of the World Association of Russian Press (WARP) and is open for all the Russian-language mass media of any formats, including those that are not part of the association. It is held yearly in different countries. The United States, Ukraine, Germany, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Kazakhstan, France, Israel, Italy, Belarus and China were among the countries hosting the congress. Traditionally, the heads of the state hosting the event address its participants and guests. Among the guests are state, public and political figures from Russia and countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States, a loose alliance of former Soviet republics, as well as business executives, editors-in-chief, publishers and leading Russian journalists.
