Dengue fever victims rise in Thailand

BANGKOK, Oct 4 (TNA) - As the number of dengue fever victims throughout Thailand increases to over 80,000 persons since the beginning of this year up till last month, the Public Health Ministry has advised people to protect themselves from being bitten by mosquitoes before the winter season arrives. Dr. Sophon Mekthon, permanent secretary for Public Health, has issued a warning that persons who are suffering from health problems such as diabetes, high blood pressure and asthma should see doctors immediately if they have a headache, nausea and related illnesses. They should refrain from buying medicines by themselves. His advice was made following official statistics showing that about 80,000 persons suffered from dengue fever since the beginning of this year up till September 28 and 82 patients died nationwide. Most patients are aged between15 – 24.(TNA)
