M`SIA BIGGEST INVESTOR IN PAKISTAN JULY-DEC 2008
KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 31 (Bernama) -- Malaysia topped the list of investors
making foreign direct investment (FDI) in Pakistan during the July-December
period this year with Maybank making the biggest investment of US$907 million in
the banking sector.
This was followed by Saudi Arabia with an investment of US$750 million in
the steel industry and UAE with an investment of US$500 million in power sector.
According to the latest data released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of
Pakistan, the current global economic meltdown has not deterred foreign
investors including Malaysia in investing in Pakistan.
It said Pakistan's economy had shown extreme resilience, registering growth
in FDIs, exports and foreign remittance.
FDIs in the first five months of current financial year reached US$1.8
billion, an increase by 1.5 percent, while exports reached US$8.2 billion
registering a growth of 20 percent and foreign remittance came to US$2.9
billion, an impressive increase of 15 percent.
Another Asean member country, Singapore, has made an investment of US$147
million in the country's banking sector and US$30 million in power.
