EASA satisfies with Thailand on solving aviation problems

BANGKOK, Dec 8 (TNA) -- The European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) is satisfied with the Thai government’s determination to resolve problems involving the kingdom’s aviation industry, said Patrick Ky, EASA executive director, on Tuesday. Mr Ky told journalists that his agency realises that Thailand is a major destination for several important commercial airlines and EASA has attached importance to aviation development, especially safety. Rapid changes are seen on the safety of global airlines, he said, adding that there was no airline accident in 2013 but four major accidents took place in 2014, including the one which happened with Malaysia Airlines. Therefore, aviation safety standards should be developed all the time. On the part of EASA, it is satisfied with the Thai government’s strong determination in resolving aviation problems in short, medium and long-term, said Mr Ky. His remarks were made as EASA is due to announce the results of its audit of Thailand’s aviation industry this Thursday after its authorities had conducted an audit of Thailand’s Airport Department and the Office of Civil Aviation and expressed concerns on training programmes for new pilots and reviewing air operator certificates. Thailand’s Transport Ministry early Tuesday signed a commercial aviation safety with the EASA named the ‘Cooperation Framework Arrangement on Aviation Safety.' Transport Minister Arkhom Termpittyapaisith said the accord signed with EASA would enable the country to further develop its aviation safety standards in line with the agency’s practices and he personally believed that the Thai government is moving toward the right direction on improving the aviation industry in the country. On the EASA’s scheduled announcement this Thursday, Mr Arkhom said Thailand is prepared to accept the agency decision. (TNA)
