Medical teams to be mobilised during BFD

BANGKOK, Dec 8 (TNA) -- Thai Public Health Ministry has planned to mobilise medical teams to different locations along the 29-kilometre biking route set to be used for the upcoming Bike For Dad (BFD) 2015 cycling event. Head of the Emergency Medical Services Group from the Department of Medical Services (DMS) under the Public Health Ministry, Dr Naruemon Sawanpanyalert (MD) said after a full rehearsal of the event, her department has been coordinating with the Armed Forces' medical school in gathering around 1,500 medical personnel to be divided into 290 teams to be stationed at every 500 metres interval along the 29-kilometre cycling route. She added that teams of physicians would be also be cycling with each cycling caravan, while Advanced Life Support ambulances and 40 hospitals would be prepared to cater to any emergency that could occur. She said although the cycling distance for the BFD only 29 kilometres, but the route would include bicycling up steep bridge of the Rama 8, and so she has ordered that medical personnel be stationed at the foot of the bridge on both the uphill and downhill side. She advised cyclists to be prepared for the tiring ride by getting enough sleep before the day of the event and to constantly keep drinking clean water to keep their bodies hydrated during the ride, as well as to arrive at the event on a full stomach, though food should be consumed 1-2 hours before the actual ride. Dr Naruemon said that many cyclists would probably be affected by the heat stroke, as experience from the previous cycling event, Bike For Mom (BFM), back in August had shown. (TNA)
