Understand Market Before Going Global, Malaysian Firms Urged
KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 11 (Bernama) -- Malaysian companies wishing to grow globally should have a deep understanding of the targeted market, said a business professor.
Although Malaysian companies are expanding rapidly overseas, their lack of deep understanding about the market and inability to tap into the local talents have prevented them from expanding further, said International Institute for Management Development (IMD)'s Regional Director of Southeast Asia and Oceania, Professor Margaret Cording.
Partnering with local players could facilitate business operations and is one way to solve the issue, she told reporters after speaking at a seminar themed "The Globalisation Capability Gap" here Thursday.
"Choose the market and learn the market deeply, find the right partner then take the risk.
"If I was a small and medium-sized entrepreneur (SME), I would spend more time and energy trying to figure out which markets present the best opportunities," she added.
