(KPL) President Choummaly Sayasone, talked to the senior revolutionary officials and the retired officials on the occasion of a meeting to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the foundation of the Lao People’s Army at the Ministry of National Defence, Vientiane, 2 January.
Also taking part in this dialogue were Lieutenant-General Duangchai Phichit, Vice Prime Minister, Minister of National Defence, deputies ministers, national heroes and high-ranking military officers and 300 attendees.
President Choummaly took the opportunity to speak and to greet the senior officials who had contributed to the revolutionary movement so far.
President Choummaly, who is also the Party General Secretary, addressed the assembly and he reviewed the years of struggle of the past and the expansion of the Lao People’s Army.
Then he briefed the audiences on the fast changing situation in Laos, region and world and the problems that the world is presently facing.
The President added that given this difficult situation it is pertinent to the people in the Party to have a firm grasp of the resolutions of the 8th Party Congress as they are meant to determine the policies on socio-economic development from 2005 to 2010 and to 2020.
Such a policy, the President stressed, would ultimately result in poverty reduction and modernization of the industrial sector.
Then he said that last but not least there is a need to fully comprehend the guidelines on national defence and how it is linked to the socio-economic development of the country.
Mr Choummaly urged the revolutionary senior officials to continue to be involved in the revolutionary movement at the grass-root level, to implement the guidelines on national defence-security and economic and foreign policies of the Party-State.
The senior revolutionary officials, said the President to the assembly, should take steps to foster unity and solidarity among the various ethnic groups, senior officials and young officials and to dialogue with them on the experiences of their revolutionary struggle in the past.
The senior revolutionary officials should also take steps to mobilize their children to contribute to the country by joining the security force to defend the country and to comply to the duties expected from them by the Party-State, said President Choummaly. After the President’s speech, Lieutenant General Duangchai Phichith presented medals to the revolutionary senior revolutionary officials for their contributions on national and development building for the past 60 years.
