Battersea Art Exhibition Raises 18,000 Pounds For Charity

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 16 (Bernama) -- Charities Beatbox Academy, Theatre503 and World Heart Beat Music Academy have received a combined US$27,085 (18,000 pounds) from the Battersea Art Station exhibition, held in September at the Battersea Arts Centre. "Battersea Power Station has been crafting a strong foundation for hosting cultural events," Battersea Power Station Chairman Johan Ariffin was quoted as saying in a statement issued by Sime Darby Property, the property division of Malaysian conglomerate Sime Darby. Battersea Power Station site is owned by a consortium of Malaysian investors comprising SP Setia, Sime Darby and the Employees' Provident Fund, and Sime Darby Property is the developer of the iconic Battersea Power Station project in central London. He said with the participation of amateur and professional artists around the world, the art competition received submissions from New Zealand and Canada with a variety in pieces ranging from contemporary Power Station gym clothings to classical oil paintings. The Battersea Art Station initiative has been a superb opportunity to showcase talent and cultural outreach in the local community at a time when space is limited at the development due to the extensive construction programme underway, the statement said. --BERNAMA
