MFA:Myanmar understands Thailand's judicial process
BANGKOK, December 28 (TNA) - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says that the Myanmar government understands Thailand's judicial process.
Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai told journalists on Tuesday that he has discussed with his Myanmar counterpart on a Thai court verdict on
a death sentence against two Myanmar migrant workers who murdered two British tourists on a beach of Koh Tao, a resort island in the Gulf of Thailand, last year and the latter expressed his understanding about the Thai judicial process.
Don said some Myanmar people are now anger over the court verdict and the Myanmar government is trying to prevent the issue from deteriorating.
Don noted that concerned Thai authorities are also trying to cool down the situation and further the case in the judicial process, expressing his hope that the situation should not worsen because it would be useless to both countries.
Don stressed that ongoing protests should not affect border trade of the two neighbouring countries because no one would gain.
The Thai court on December 24 sentenced to death the two Myanmar migrant workers, Zaw Lin and Win Zaw Htun, both 22, for being found guilty of raping and murdering Hannah Witheridge and murdering David Miller, both 24-year-old British tourists, with their bodies found on Koh Tao off Surat Thani Province in the Thai South on September 15, 2014.
However, the two Myanmar convicts could lodge an appeal against the court verdict. (TNA)
