GEORGE TOWN (Penang, Malaysia), Jan 4 (Bernama) -- Kerry Logistics Malaysia, a leading logistics service provider in Asia, is eyeing double-digit growth for its operations in South-East Asia, following the opening of its IT Development Centre in Bayan Baru here. Kerry Logistics Chairman, George Yeo, said the centre was set up to harness internet technology (IT) to support the company's rapidly-growing international operations. He said the group will continue to expand its logistics facilities, trucking, freight and express services. "The establishment of our centre in this dynamic city will provide us readily available local IT resources, a strong pool of multi-lingual talents and good infrastructure support," he told reporters after the opening of the centre here today by Penang Chief Minister, Lim Guan Eng, here Monday. He said the opening of the centre was in tandem with the company's business expansion in ASEAN and beyond and the rising demand for IT application systems and support. "As part of our overall IT development strategy, we will use the new centre here as an offshore support centre to share resources among different offices globally in a bid to increase operational efficiency at lower costs," he said. He said the group also planned to hire up to 50 staff by 2017 for its office in Bayan Baru. Meanwhile, Lim said, Penang welcomed Asia's premier logistics service providers to set up their global business services (GBS) centres here. He said between 2009 and 2014, Penang had cumulative investments from these companies with Multimedia Super Corridor-status of RM4.07 billion (around US$943 million).
