UTHM Introduces First Floating Market In Country

PAGOH (Johor, Malaysia), Jan 7 (Bernama) -- Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) has earned a place for itself in the record books by introducing the first floating market in the country. The market was introduced as a pilot project on Dec 16 at the Panchor Jetty, in Muar near here and was along the lines of similar markets in Thailand and Indonesia where essentials like greens, fruits and other edible items can be bought from operators using sampans (wooden boats). The initiative was a brainchild of UTHM assistant vice-chancellor (Industrial and Community Relations) Prof Dr. Abdul Razak Omar who thought up alternatives ways for the local community to supplement their income. Abdul Razak in a statement here Wednesday said he hoped the pilot project would lead to the market becoming a permanent feature at the Panchor Jetty. -- BERNAMA
