DR ABDUL HAMID PAWANTEH CALLS ON NGUYEN

HANOI, Jan 7 (Bernama) -- The Upper House of Parliament president Dr Abdul
Hamid Pawanteh Tuesday night paid a courtesy call on Vietnamese Prime Minister
Nguyen Tan Dung at the government guest house here.

Dr Abdul Hamid is in Vietnam to witness the signing of a memorandum of
agreement between Janakuasa Sdn Bhd (Janakuasa) and the Vietnam Electricity
Authority (EVN) scheduled Wednesday.

He said the courtesy call was to convey Janakuasa's gratitude to the
Vietnamese government for awarding the US$1.5 billion power plant project at
Tra Vinh province.

Although not involved with the power company, the former Perlis menteri
besar said he was among several individuals who lobbied for the project over two
years ago.

He was then chairman of Tenaga Teknologi Perlis Consortium Sdn Bhd (TTPC) of
which Janakuasa has the largest equity.

During the 20-minute meeting, Dr Abdul Hamid was accompanied by Janakuasa
president and chief executive officer Ti Che Liang.
