The Big Heart Foundation and KHCF join hands to provide cancer care to patients

SHARJAH, 11th January, 2016 (WAM) -- The Big Heart Foundation, TBHF, has signed an agreement with the King Hussein Cancer Foundation, KHCF, in Jordan, a leading Jordanian and Arab institution in the fight against cancer, to provide essential medical care for eight Syrian Refugees and Palestinian cancer patients, with TBHF covering the cost of treatment provided by The King Hussein Cancer Centre, the Foundation’s medical arm. The King Hussein Cancer Centre in Jordan provides state-of-the-art comprehensive cancer care to the people of Jordan and the Middle East region. The King Hussein Cancer Foundation and Centre also offers education, training and public awareness initiatives aimed at early detection and prevention of cancer. Cancer-related research is also carried at KHCC to decrease mortality rates and alleviate suffering from cancer. HRH Princess Dina Mired, Director-General of the King Hussein Cancer Foundation, said, "I am very proud of our partnership with the Big Heart Foundation and the great relationship between Jordan and the UAE. This is reflected through their invaluable efforts to support our fight against cancer. With this generous donation we will be able to continue to cover the treatment of unprivileged patients in our centre and continue our joint humanitarian mission of supporting patients in need." Mariam al Hammadi, Director of "Salam Ya Seghar", a TBHF initiative said, "We are very pleased to undertake this initiative and to collaborate with an eminent medical care provider like the King Hussein Cancer Foundation and Centre. We are sure that the Foundation and Centre will give the patients the best care needed. Under the directions of H.H. Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah and UNHCR Eminent Advocate for Refugee Children, TBHF seeks to alleviate the suffering of cancer patients by offering help, support and most importantly, hope. It is Her Highness’ greatest wish to ensure all those who need cancer care and treatment, are able to receive it." In May 2015, H.H. Sheikha Jawaher Al Qasimi launched the International Childhood Cancer Fund to support children with cancer worldwide and donated US$1 million towards this cause. The fund aims to help save the lives of 30,000 children in poor and middle-income countries and was launched in cooperation with the UICC’s International Childhood Cancer Fund, through the "Salam Ya Seghar" campaign, an affiliate of the Big Heart Foundation. Mariam al Hammadi added, "H.H. Sheikha Jawaher Al Qasimi believes that equitable access to treatment and care is a fundamental right of all people and despite the difficult times people living in countries such as Palestine and Syria endure, they have a right to decent healthcare, which is a human rights and social justice issue." – Emirates News Agency, WAM - http://www.wam.ae/en/news/emirates/1395290107836.html
