Thais at risk of facing vitamin D deficiency

BANGKOK, Jan 15 (TNA) -- Thailand's Institute of Nutrition, Mahidol University has reported that Thai people is facing the tendency in having vitamin D deficiency and at risk of osteoporosis by avoiding sunlight. The Institute director Dr Ratchanee Kongkachuichai said many Thais have been diagnosed with vitamin D deficiency, as numerous researches have shown that most Thais at the working age is facing vitamin D deficiency as they would avoid sunlight, which is a natural vitamin D generator by applying sunscreen and avoiding sunlight. She added that many Thai people do not consumer enough nuts and livers, which also prompted the population to be at risk of having higher tendency of osteoporosis. Besides, she further informed that taking vitamin D supplements could cause more harm than good if the body does not need it, as the vitamins A, D, E, K are fats solubles. (TNA)
