Six associates of Mumbai attackers sent to Kashmir: Dossier

New Delhi, Jan 7 (PTI) Six terrorists, part of a
Pakistani group which struck in Mumbai, have been sent to
India's northern state of Jammu and Kashmir for "some
operations", according to the dossier India handed over to
Pakistan.

Citing the interrogation report of Ajmal Amir Kasab, the
lone terrorist held during the Mumbai attacks, the dossier
says that the six terrorists had undergone training in various
parts of Pakistan along with seven of the 10 terrorists who
were responsible for the November 26 carnage in the western
metropolis.

The terrorists were trained at Lashkar-e-Taiba camps in
Muridke, Manshera and Muzaffarabad (in Pakistan-occupied
Kashmir), says the dossier which has included Kasab's
interrogation report as part of evidence to show Pakistani
linkages to the three-day long siege.

Initially, the group consisted of 32 terrorists who were
imparted basic knowledge of firearms, ammunition, grenades and
explosives, according to the dossier.

Later, they were taught to handle and fire Kalashnikov
(AK) rifles and 9 mm pistols and how to fabricate explosive
devices. They were also imparted training in techniques to
"counter interrogation" and "tolerate pain".

Besides, they were indoctrinated to become suicide
bombers, Kasab has revealed.

"Ultimately, 13 persons out of the group (of 32) were
selected for carrying out attacks in India. Six of the 13 were
sent for some operations in Kashmir," the dossier said.

Three new members were brought to join the remaining
seven terrorists, making the number 10 for the Mumbai group.

One of the new members was Ismail Khan, who eventually
became the leader of the group that attacked Mumbai, the
dossier says.

Ismail, who along with Kasab attacked the CST railway
station and got killed on November 26, was a 25-year-old
resident of Dera Ismail Khan in Pakistan's North West Frontier
Province (NWFP).

The 10-member group was told about the "Mumbai
operations" in mid-September last year, after which they were
kept in isolation in a house near Karachi and all contacts
between the group and others were cut off, the dossier says.

"The group was closely monitored by Zaki-ur Rehman
Lakhvi, Abu Hamza, Yousuf alias Muzammil and Kaafa, all senior
functionaries of the LeT," the dossier notes, adding that the
first three are known to intelligence agencies of many
countries.

Besides Kasab and Ismail, the dossier also contains
addresses of other eight terrorists in Pakistan. These are:
Babar Imran alias Abu Aksha of Multan, Naser alias Abu Umar of
Faisalabad, Shoaib alias Abu Saheb of Shakkargarh Naroval,
Sialkot, Nazir alias Abu Umer of Faisalabad, Hafiz Arshad
alias Abu Abdar Rehman 'Bada' of Multan, Javed alias Abu Ali
of Okara, Abdur Rehman alias Abdar Rehman 'Chhota' and
Fahadulla of Ujrashah Mukim, Rasur Road, Okara.

The dossier also contains details of documents,
instruments and other material used by the 10 terrorists.
These include GPS instruments and a satellite phone.

The terrorists had been directed to throw the satellite
phone in the sea before reaching Mumbai but they failed to do
so and left it in the boat they used as they abandoned it in
panic.

The 69-page dossier, having four volumes, contains
photographs of the weapons and other articles recovered from
the terrorists along with the transcripts of conversations
between the terrorists and their handlers in Pakistan.

The phone calls were intercepted by the Indian agencies
soon after the terrorists struck at Taj Hotel, Oberoi Hotel
and Nariman House on the night of November.

At 0310 hours IST on November 27, about five hours after
the attacks began, terrorists in Taj Hotel received a call
from Pakistan.

"There are three ministers and one Secretary of the
Cabinet in your hotel. We don't know in which room," says the
caller.

Terrorist at Taj: "Oh! That is good news! It is the icing
on the cake".

Caller: "Find those 3-4 persons and then get whatever you
want from India".

Terrorist at Taj: "Pray that we find them".

Caller: "Do one thing. Throw one or two grenades on the
Navy and police teams, which are outside".

Terrorist at Taj: "Sorry, I simply can't make out where
they are".

At 1945 hours IST on November 27, a call is made from
Nariman House to Pakistan.

Caller: "What did the Major General say?"

Receiver: "The Major General directed us to do what we
like. We should not worry. The operation has to be concluded
tomorrow morning. Pray to God. Keep two magazines and three
grenades aside and expend the rest of your ammunition."

At 0126 hours IST on November 27, about four hours after
the attacks began, terrorists at Taj Hotel received a call
from Pakistan: "Are you setting the fire or not?"

Terrorist at Taj: "Not yet, I am getting a mattress
ready for burning".

Caller: "What did you do with the dead body?" This
apparently refers to the owner of the vessel MV Kuber which
the 10 terrorists hijacked to reach Mumbai.

Terrorist at Taj: "Left it behind".

Caller from Pakistan: "Did you not open the locks
(probably of MV Kuber) for the water below?"

Terrorist at Taj: "No, they did not open the locks. We
left it like that because of being in a hurry. We made a big
mistake."

Caller: "What big mistake?"

Terrorist: "When we were getting into the boat, the waves
were quite high. Another boat came. Everyone raised an alarm
that the Navy had come. Everyone jumped quickly. In this
confusion, the satellite phone of Ismail got left behind."

Terrorists at Nariman House received another call at 2226
hours on November 27.

"Brother, you have to fight. This is a matter of prestige
of Islam. Fight so that your fight becomes a shining example.
Be strong in the name of Allah. You may feel tired or sleepy
but the commandos of Islam have left everything behind --
their brothers, their mothers, their fathers, their homes.
Brother, you have to fight for the victory of Islam. Be
strong."

Receiver: "Amen!". PTI
