Malaysian Ringgit Opens Higher Against US Dollar

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 26 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian ringgit opened higher against US dollar Tuesday, tracking the performance of regional peers, dealers said. At 9.01 am , the local unit was traded at 4.2850/2920 from 4.2950/2040 against the greenback on Friday. The foreign exchange market was closed Monday for the Thaipusam public holiday. An analyst noted that investors were waiting for the outcome of the two-day US Federal Reserve Meeting on Thursday to see if interest rates are increased further following the fluctuation in global markets. The ringgit also traded higher against other major currencies. It rose against the Singapore dollar to 2.9913/9968 from 3.0073/0157 on Friday, gained against the yen to 3.6271/6345 from 3.6309/6388 and appreciated against the British pound to 6.0933/1045 from 6.1238/1384. It strengthened against the euro to 4.6479/6572 from 4.6566/6673 on Friday. -- BERNAMA
